MY ROLE
During my time on the base game of Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, I worked as a Technical Designer. This meant creating and maintaining level design ingredients that were used throughout the game or as memorable set pieces in specific quests. This meant collaborating with many different disciplines involving: Level Design, Directors, VFX, Audio and Props. Avatar was developed in the Snowdrop Engine, where most of my time was spent. I used node based visual scripting in order to bring these ingredients to life, as well as help Level and Quest Designers in their content by ensuring good practices were met and by helping them fix bugs.

Last Strike Boss Fight
During the final mission of the game, the player is tasked with disabling a payload bomb (pictured above). It can be seen moving through the base before the player finally reaches it towards the end of the mission. Before the final boss appears the player must shoot at exposed refuelling vents on the bomb to destroy it, while robot arms attempt to fuel the bomb.
I was responsible for these gameplay ingredients, handling things like their movement and destruction. The bomb can be seen lowering into position as the player first enters the room where it remains for the duration of the fight. Then, robot arms carrying a fuel canister move along a rail on the ceiling and rotate into position. The fuelling hatch on the bomb opens as the robot arm docks and starts fuelling the payload. If the player shoots the fuel canister on the underside of the robot arm, it will be destroyed and retreat back along the rail, leaving the fuel port on the bomb exposed for the player to shoot for a short time. When both fuel ports on the bomb are destroyed the quest continues, however if the player allows the bomb to be fully fuelled, they fail the quest and must retry.

Below is a video showcasing both ingredients in action.
Last Strike Animated Sequences
During the final mission of the game, the clans the player has met during the campaign help assault the final base with the player. In order to bring these moments to life and showcase the other Na'vi helping the player I was tasked with creating sequences to showcase these moments.

One of these features the player lowering a bridge to allow Zeswa riders access to the base and the other shows the player disabling anti air turrets allowing the Aranahe clan to swoop in on their ikrans. You can find videos of these below.
